Health insurance across state lines is not an inherently bad idea, but it won’t work with out some Federal authority to stop companies from bribing their way into the most lax state , then collecting premiums from people until they get sick and dropping them.
Also, the pool model only works if the pool stays healthy. He doesn’t address the problem of “pool death spiral”, in which rising costs drive healthy people out of a pool.
He’s not offering Obama any real competition.
